Alcove Sofa Two-Seater from Vitra
(Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec, 2006/2008) in fabric Laser green with separate set of cushions: A sofa can go beyond being merely a piece of furniture and become a room
of its own within a room – this was the idea that prompted Ronan and
Erwan Bouroullec to design Alcove Sofa. With its soft seat and backrest
upholstery, as well as the high, flexible side and back panels, Alcove
Sofa creates the setting for a safe and secure world, a place for
relaxed withdrawal from the hustle-&-bustle of life. Yet, Alcove
Sofa is also a meeting place and point of communication: In the larger
version two people can sit opposite each other, relaxing back against
the side walls. As two- or three-seaters, the Alcove Sofa fits interiors
of different sizes. Moreover, the Alcove Love Seat offers the
advantages of the Alcove Sofa but for a small footprint, benefiting from
the wall panels, that are as thin as they are flexible that means the
armchair is spacious despite its compact outer size. The Alcove Ottoman
is a comfortable complement.
Chromed tubular steel, metal frame with belt upholstery, panels made of
fibreglass-reinforced plastic, seat cushioning: polyurethane foam and polyester wool,
backrest cushioning and set of cushions: filled with microfibres and polyurethane chips. Fabric Laser. Alcove Two-Seater incl. 2 backrest cushions. Set of 2 small backrest and 2 armrest cushions for additional comfort is separate available.

Designer furniture by Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec
Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, born 1971 and 1976, respectively, in Quimper, France, studied at the École Nationale des Arts Décoratifs in Paris and at the École des Beaux-Arts in Cergy-Pontoise. Ronan began independent design work immediately after completing his studies, while his brother, who was still in school, assisted him. Since 1999 both brothers have worked together as joint partners in their own design firm. Their work ranges from small utilitarian objects to architectural projects. In addition to the design of domestic and office furniture, vases, porcelain dishware, jewellery and diverse home accessories, a primary focus of their work is the design and organization of interior space. One of their most unconventional designs, Algues (2004), was created in this context. The collaboration between the Bouroullec brothers and Vitra began in 2000 with the office furniture system Joyn, which was developed between 2000-02 and is continually being refined and expanded. Along with Jasper Morrison and Hella Jongerius, Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec have made major contributions to the steadily growing Vitra Home Collection.Exhibitions (selection):
