Michele De Lucchi was born in Ferrara, Italy in 1951. Architect, industrial designer and design theorist. Founding member of the Memphis group. Even before completing his architectural studies at the International Art Academy in Florence, where he received his degree in 1975, he founded the Cavart group in Padua. From 1978 to 1980, he worked on projects with the Alchimia group. Together with Ettore Sottsass and Barbara Radice, De Lucchi founded the Memphis movement in 1981.In 1990, he took on the coordination of product design at Olivetti and designed office furniture and computers for that company. In 1991, he performed the project planning for the branches of Deutsche Bank and Banco Portugues do Atlantico. Michele De Lucchi has designed industrial products, furniture and crockery for numerous well-known companies such as Arflex, Artemide, Kartell, Mandarina Duck, Pelikan, and Rosenthal. In addition, he founded the Solid group, in which he created objects for the "innovative household" from materials such as steel, marble, aluminium, ceramics and wood.
The activities of his own studio in Milan extend from industrial design through furniture and interior design to private and public architecture. In 1997, Studio De Lucchi was nominated Design Team of the Year by the Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen. As an internationally known architect, industrial designer and design theorist, Michele De Lucchi deals with all the forms of expression encompassed by design, from architectural projects through complete interiors to complex design processes.
